Is there anymore respect left in the woods ? If a man spends all day scouting out a spot , sets his treestand , trims back some branches , baits and tacks out to the road and hangs an orange tape to mark his trail and let people know (not to go in ) only to find the next few days he goes back to bait that someone was there because he finds orange peels left behind by the intruder almost on purpose to let him know . It's not right , when I've ever scouted and saw another treestand I would leave the area , period .

hunters are truly ignorant of others spots when they need to kill...... i was in nockamixon from530 am till 330pm when 5 guys showed up and all sat within 500 yards of me friday after noon no respect,,,, i climbed out of the stand and made as much noise as possible took apiss and poop and left ... there is no way that you dont see a fellow in orange in a tre in december and why encroach on this space i had seen 11 deer that day before they intruded .... i hope that they all step in my poop
if onyone of u are reading... good luck

respect is blinded by greed.

i have a few guys that can't read the 50 posted signs that are up.
they all think the grass is always greener. if they hunted their side right, they'd have deer all season long, but they don't.

I am perplexed in this situation. On private land I can see you have the right to set where you want and not be disturbed by other hunters tresspassing on your land. But on public land I have just as much right to be in any area as the next guy.. Now that said I will not set up right ontop of someone but if we both use the same trail to go in and out and he breaks off right and I break off left what is the problem???? We both are well outside each others range with a shotgun even if he is throwing slugs... What about the clubs that push right past me every year stopping to take a piss on my bait pile and smoke cigarettes in the area do I have the right to get upset???? I have seen the good and the bad with public land but you have to take it for what it is PUBLIC and anyone with a license has just as much right to the area as anyone else...I have just started hunting hunters patterns as much as deer patterns during gun week and I has worked out well for me... Jump in front of a gun club pushing deer get up high in a tree and see what comes your way...Some guys will yell and make a fuss but they are driving deer anyway none have ever tried to take my deer from me. Have you ever watched deer club after deer club drive the same piece of woods back to back do they argue and fight NO they just keep on trying same should be with pot hunters and clubs... Remember we all pay the same for the right to hunt the woods just get out and enjoy and don't let some Jerk yelling ruin your day...

Have to agree with Bighunter here somewhat. Public land is that public land. Personnally I would not follow someones trail and hunt where I new he set up. But there is a chance he came from another direction or has been hunting that spot already and thought you were intruding. There are not many spots on the public land someone doesn't already hunt.

It all boils down to respect for fellow man and other hunters in the woods. Public land is exactly that...public. It seems within the past 10 years there are an alarming # of ignorant hunters who willl not respect someones setup and will go as far as to steal stands, destroy bait piles, even deface personal property. Our fathers and grandfathers did not tolerate it and neither should we!!!! I have been guilty of walking close to someones setup and have backed out without the hunter even knowing I was there...I can't say the same level of respect has been shown to me on public land. I just try to get as far off the beaten path and hunt areas most guys won't even think about setting foot in.

This happens on private land also. On Monday morning as I approached my tree stand I noticed someone in it. This guy was in my stand on my property. He even wanted to give me an arguement that he was right. The attitude that this idiot had is one reason that landowners stop allowing people on their property.

The point is not that people don't have the RIGHT--its that they don't have any RESPECT. Big difference. I've made up ground blinds out of broken limbs and branches etc only to find someone deliberately knocked it all down. WHY?? just to be a A---le:mad:

I agree we all need to learn to respect each other's spots. The problem is baiting the first year you plan on hunting a spot. The other guy could have been all ready hunting that spot just not hacking out a trail & baiting. I like to hunt a year in a spot to see if anybody eles is in a spot before setting up full bore.

Most of you guys are from Jersey and I was wanting to know if you put a stand up on public land and someone else is in it can you make him get out?The reason I asked is because I was hunting with a friend in lower Delaware on state ground. He had built four stands ,but he told me if I went to one of them and someone was in it we could not make them leave because it is on state ground. Is it the same there?

I thought you where not allowed to leave a stand on StaTe Game lands or in State and County parks over night. If the PGC sees them they have the right to take them. Am I wrong on this one?

I would have a big problem if I tacked in a trail to my stand and another hunter is now using it and splitting off to hunt "his" new spot. Give me a break! There is plenty of public land for everyone. Do to others as you would want done to you. :naughty:

In Jersey you can not build anything permanent and you are not technically allowed to leave a temporary stand in the woods. Same for duck blinds, although they still get built, some within sight of major roads!

If you left a stand or built a blind on public property and found someone in it, you have no right to ask them to leave since it didn't belong there in the first place.

ya know in looking up the statutes I may actually be wrong about that... and as you know I'm in no way afraid to admit that...

actually, nowhere does it say you can't build a permanent tree stand, although it does say

§ 7:25-2.1 Cutting or damaging vegetation

No person or persons shall at any time cut, fell, dig up, pull up, damage, gather, carry away, take, remove or destroy any tree, shrub, vine or other vegetation or part thereof without written permission or other authorization of the Division. Nothing in this section shall apply to public utility companies or their agents engaged in the maintenance of existing utility company rightsofway, provided that prior notice is given to the Division.

It would be pretty impossible to build a permanent stand without attaching it to a tree and therefore "damaging" that tree, thus we are told no permanent tree stands.

So I suppose if you want to leave a portable stand in the woods you are technically allowed to do so, although I wouldn't exactly call it prudent or ethical, in that it could be stolen (prudence) or block up an area people are supposed to have access to (ethics).

My understanding of that rule appears to have bee incorrect.

You can't have it up if it damages the tree.
