Fiugured I'd add to an old thread.

This is a pic of a muzzy 100gr 3 blade exit wound through the cartilage of the scapula. I shot this deer at 38 yds broadside and the arrow went through ribs on entry and exit as well as the cartilage plate on the opposite shoulder.

It was a medium sized doe about 90lbs live wgt.

Don't take offense, but most heads should do that on broadside shots. I shot Muzzy's for years and had similiar results. The first hard quartering away shot I took, ended up in a lost deer. The chisel point "slid" down the side of the hide and caught the front shoulder. It did not penetrate on impact. 20 yrd shot! I've since switched to cut on contact heads with much better results on quartering shots.

yeah. I was just impressed that it went through both ribs and the cartilage plate from 38yds. and the exit hole looked nasty.

Yeah I hear ya! I loved the way they flew. Tuned awesome! Plus i could tune them, practice and then change blades. I knew exactly where they would hit when I walked into the woods. The cut on contact design has to be resharpened before I hunt with them.
I was in Illinois 3 years ago with a couple buddies. 2 of us shot Muzzys and the other guy shot Montecs. Side by side into a block target he had 5" more penetration than I had, even though I had the superior bow setup. That next week I lost the buck I spoke of in the last post. So when I switched I went to Montecs. I just started playing with NAP Hell Razors, but don't have any field experience to speak of yet. They fly better than any head I've shot, and sharpen up better than the Montecs. Time will tell!

The first time I shot expandables i shot a doe 20 yards and did not penetrate. It was a broadside shot and just caught part of the shoulder blade on the opposite side. Ive been shooting montecs since. Ive pumched through both shoulders of an eight pointer that dressed out at 160. Very happy with the penetration to say the least and I never worry about hard quartering shots.
