Ammo for hastings barrels

Just got a Rem. 870 with a Hastings Barrel and shot Rem. 1 oz. copper sabots . they didn't group at all at 100 yards , an old man gave me Federals Vital shocks and they grouped tight . When I got back to Bobs little sportshop I was told not to shoot coppers out of the barrel . Anyone own or know anything about Hastings Barrels (12 guage 2 3/4 in.) 5/8 oz . feds shot best .

I have the same hastings and the sst and the lightfield both shot great but the sst was the better of the 2.. I now shoot the federal fusion out of a benelli and they also shot good out of the hasting

When I worked at Dick's we were told that the Coppersolids did not compress enough going through a rifled barrel when in the hard plastic sabot and any barrel with thin walls like a Hastings would actually bend. One customer from South Jersey said his club had quite a few bent Hastings barrels because of using Coppersolids, but I cannot really substantiate it. I thought Hastings had fixed that problem.

I shoot 3" Lightfields out of mine and it shoots great

When I still had my shop I asked my Remington rep about any problems and he told me Hastings had gotten ticked off at Remington over something and told people not to use the coppper slugs in their barrels.I used them mine and never had any problem with my barrel just could not get any groups with them.Best groups were with federal barnes x bullets.

I have a Hastings cantilever barrel on my Rem. 1100. It shoots very good groups with both Lightfields and Activs.

OK I've shot the SST and they group great at 110yr. Thanks for the info . :thup:
