Little late here guys but figure i'd post anyway
Wednesday night when i got down i talked to my grandpa who said the dekes were already out n to be there by 7am
Well I wake up Thursday morning and my truck is a frost block so I knew we were in for an interesting morning. Started off brushing frost off the Big Feet while several small early flight flocks looked our way. Got put away about 730 and had the land owner join us 10 minutes later. Not long after we had our first flock start working, calm day like it was made for a long work with little calling but the finally came in proper, I called the shot and dropped my 2 birds before the others fired a shot, Poppop dropped 1 and the land owner dropped 1 and hit 1 I turned on and put down. Happy with going 3 for 3 with out shooting since the end of last yr I called it a day

Friday morning I rose early to set the water blind. set up and put away by 620 legal time being 630. Slow start with very few ducks flying, bout 730 I was joined by Poppop, the land owner and his wife. I soon found out we were in for a long day when I heard the idiots:rolleyes: on the next property set up on the water calling like morrons:confused:, we had a problem with them last yr:fight: doing alot of sky busting, and when I say sky blasting I mean total distance of probably 100yrds:huh::huh: this yr was no different. I start working a flock of about 16 birds when they swung too far right to make there final approach and those A@#$$#%^^$ started blasting:mad::mad::mad:, next we had a single coming and the A!@##$%$% took 2 seprate whacks at before he swung into the dekes, the mrs. of the blind missed and I quickly followed up puttin our 1st bird down. The other called it quits around 8 and sat in the field blind till about 930. Around noon I get out and start playing with the dekes for the evening hunt when I hear a mess of birds get up. I ran back to the blind, as fast as I could in waist deep water, and watched several large flocks working the field dekes, I pulled a flock of about 10 into the water but didnt want to shoot a bigger flock for 1 bird, eventually pulled off 3 birds to cap my limit.
Pulled all the geese and set up for ducks in the evening, saw plenty but never blew the call, as my grandpa and landowner were working geese back in the field.
Not a bad way to start and end the first split of the season. Landowners head to Cali for the winter so my brown nosing is done for this yr, time to get serious and let the slaughter begin
