My twin bro just called me, he got one around 9am this morning, 1st day of the 3 day PA Bear Firearms season. Said it was likely pushed his way, it was skittish when he 1st saw him and on the run when he shot him, put a 165 accubond from his Remington .300 SAUM thru the chest at 80 yards, went 40 yards and dropped. He said it's about 200 lbs. not huge, but no cub either. He said a much bigger bear came by his stand well before shooting light. He was due, a couple seasons ago he let a huge sow go as it had 3 cubs with it....kudos to him! I wish i was there to share this hunt with him, but gotta get my work done so I can go for deer next week. Pics when i get them.

Good job to your brother, Matt. Hope he doesn't have heart failure when he gets the taxidermy bill.

That's what i told him...the mount is going to be a lot of $. He said he considers a PA bear a once in a lifetime trophy so he'll pay up. He just checked it in, it's a 185 lb. mature female.

We've been seeing a few others during bow too, a 250-300 lb. male and a 4-500 lb. male that's as wide as it is long we knicknamed fat albert. The one he saw in the dark was probably the 300 lb. male. Hopefully one of our other guys gets a chance at one of them in the next 2 days?

Congrats to your brother and your camp. It definitely sounds like his day was due. At least they had better opening day conditions this year then last years bear opener. Will there be bear roasts on the menu for buck camp?

I'll tell him you said congrats Joe! Certainly over the fire late night for any of us who may be lucky enough to tag out early in the season. We get a maid and cook for gun season these days...no sh!t  This way, dinner is done when we get in and we don't have to clean up either. It's nice when your only responsibility after coming in from a long days hunt is to crack open a cold one

How much snow do they have at the camp? My old man said we had 6 inches at our place as of 9:00pm last night and it was coming down hard.

Congrats to your brother. Our group cut some tracks but are bearless.

You want me to put the picture up, Matt?

I'll tell him you said congrats fellas and i'll be sure to have him check out this thread. He told me last night when he checked it in the wardens said it was 3.5 yrs old and never bred, but should have by now, either something wrong with her or the boars around are shooting blanks :D

You can put up the pic scott, they said the snow was coming down good, didn't get an " count.
