For the second time this year i have put a buck on the ground. I was sitting a stand i dont typically like to sit in the morning but due to two more hunters being with me i was being cut off in my normal morning stand.

I got situated and hung my slug gun on the gun holder. It was a slow cold morning so we did a little push through a briar patch that has been successful in the past.

The drivers went in around 715 and about 720 a little 3 pointer comes by. Right behind him I notice a weird looking buck that i havent seen before. As he was coming down the hedgerow he got behind a tree so i got ready. After about 10 seconds he didnt pop out the side i had expected and was standing quartering to me at about 30 yards.

I swing around and but the cross hairs on him and squeeze it off. The gun goes off and the buck goes running back towards a hedgerow behind me with his tail down. Right when i saw this i was sure i had hit him and did some fist pumping action.

I get a call from my dad that he sees him standing up and then 2 minutes later I get a call he went down. I wasn't sure his body size or antler size. Matter of fact i thought he was a smaller buck. Well let me say there was absoloutely no ground shrinkage on the deer.

Later in the day we did some more drives and only got 2 more does. This was a little bit of a disappointment after last year after going 3 for 3 with 3 bucks! Nonetheless it was a fun day.

I've never posted pictures before so let me know how i did. Last year we shot a buck that was a lot like this deer antler wise and we though that the deer had got injured but after shooting this deer were thinking genetics?

Nice shooting. How many youngsters shot the 3 deer?

The check station we went to didnt have a scale and we wanted to know how much this thing weighed so we went to tractor supply and found a nice 330 lbs. scale for $9 and it weighed 144 after hanging for 2 days.

This is the second deer that has been shot by our hunting group that looked like this. Would you say genetics or just a coincidence that they both had gotten injured?

I would have to say genetics but I could be wrong ( Wouldn't be the first time ) because to have 2 different bucks with the same rack would make me think that they were the same gene pool. If they were both hurt and developed the same abnormalities in there racks is hard to believe. No matter how you look at it, it's still a great buck so congrats on a fine harvest and enjoy the venison.
