we needed less wind and more boat traffic to keep the birds moving.

I missed the call with the results but I see you left the automatic chum system at the dock...

He never called to come goose hunting... What the heck did he do?

Good hunt boys! Way to stay safe in that weather!

Great post. I have always wanted to try sea ducks. Do you guys think black duck or brant decoys would work. The sea ducks that fly around when we are striper fishing seem pretty comfortable with boats. Can you guys give us the 1,2,3,s of sea duck hunting.

i set the anchor, tie a float on the very end.
then set six lines of decoys, two strings per side end to end. then two strings up the middle, side by side.
the lines are 30' to the first decoy then spaced out. blacks and 2 litter bottles painted black with a white spot near the head.
flagging does get them to look. this works for scoters, not squals.
when you shoot a duck just untie the boat, throw the float and chase them down. if they are alive when they hit the water, keep shooting. if they dive you may not find them.
i ran a 20' maritime on saturday. they are not affraid of a 20' boat with a 8' console. squals are a little shy, but i think that was because we had no decoys for them.
yes blacks will work. brant my be a little big, but why not, soda bottles work.
be careful on the big water.

that is alotta fun. i have had many good sea duck hunts on the bay. my favorite is a cast and blast. stripers and sea ducks !!!:)

works real good with a chase boat to pick up the birds.
