As I found out last year I can shoot the pigs anytime, Jersey has no season for Wild pigs. Zone 25 is full of them. I hope to fill the freezer with venison, fish and pork if I see them again.

Are you hunting these pigs on public or private land.
I heard stories of pigs around here but never saw any myself.
Maybe we could canvas some land owners in the area to help rid them of some pigs.

is that the course off piney hollow rd. I heard the stories but still have not seen a pig over there myself

It is public land and yes that is the course off of Dutchmill Road. I used to be the Asst. Super there.
You guys are too late. The USDA, NJ F&G amongst others are already baiting and trapping them. The guys I used to work with down there haven't seen them since last fall. They become 100% nocturnal with even the slightest bit of pressure.

Yes, as you can imagine they were not happy. That is one of the reasons the government agencies are there trying to trap and kill them.

Hm, never knew they where in NJ too. We've got a few here in Pa. I know that they are trapping them and disposing of them. Its a tough topic to go on here. The PGC is saying if you get the chance shoot them and on the other hand the USDA is saying not to. If you start to hunt them hard then they will spread out further and thus then being harder to trap.
They really do need to be eliminated from this area though. They're an invasive species and if givin the chance they will populate and just rob the nutrience from the native species (i.e. deer turkey bear etc.)

I am totally shooting one of those if I see one. I'm hunting off of route 40, are they down this far? Plus, did I miss the dates to get a turkey permit. Sounds dumb but I never hunted them before and this new place I'm hunting is thick with them and I wanted to try it out.

we had a guy over my way that was bringing them in and charging people to hunt them on his farm.
i haven't seen any around, i think the bears got them, and the other farmers.
i would like to see one through my peep sight though.

They are not easy to run into, trust me. I worked full time down there for 3 years, 6 days a week. I had private access to the WMA as well as the land that bordered the south/eastern side of the course and spent hours upon hours in those woods and didn't run into them much.
The first sign of pressure and they go nocturnal so you can bet with the government in that area trying to figure them out this year with quads, experts, traps and such that they are really laying low. They were hard to come by without pressure. The guys that killed them on a regular basis had private land with tower blinds and huge bait piles that they hunted over at night. They got a few that went over 200 lbs with 4 to 5 inch tusk. The state trapped one this year that went over 250lbs with over 5 inch tusk.
All the guys that hunt the side of the WMA are up in arms because they think the state is ruining their deer hunting.

ub,
Have you seen a bear or sign of bears yet?
When the State folks were down there to start this investigation into the pigs a few years ago they said they had confirmed reports of bears in the White Oaks WMA. A few months after that, a friend of mine said his neighbor, who is an avid hunter, watched one walk through his back yard in Newfield.

This is gonna sound crazy but... My uncles hunt wild pigs often because of they destroy everything they get into... in Portugal our vineyards, and potato plantations and corn fields are mauled by these wild pigs... so here's what they do... they set up a feeder and fill it up with corn and molasses and they make sure that they set it up near a water source or on a spot going to the water source.... then they take a quart of used motor oil and spread it all over the ground near the food and on some tree trunks near by..... The pigs go insane with the used motor oil... they like to rub themselves in it .. they go crazy!! the pigs have tons of fleas and ticks on them and by rubbing themselves in the motor oil they kill of a majority of the critters.... Try and let me know.. I have seen it with my own eyes.... we set up a feeder and motor oil in the early afternoon.. then when we come back at night we sit up in the tree stand and sure enough they come and go crazy rubbing themselves all over the ground and against the tree trunks where the oil was placed...... Grilled wild pig is delicious, coarse sea salt and fresh ground pepper and toss it on the grill... yummy!
"I'm Portuguese of course we will eat that, its delicious!"

I hunt land in Florida as much as possible. We lease a cattle ranch the damage the pigs do is unbeleivable. Down there they use dogs trained for pig hunting. The pigs will push over the feeders if you dont put bob-wire around them. They are a problem NJ really doesnt want. I know if I see one no matter what weapon I have it is ging down. The males are very bad eating but the females are great.

Pigs in Nj!! Why would F&G want to trap them out, they could let the population grow and then sell licenses to hunt them like they charge us for everything now?

Actually it's not crazy. I've been going down to South Carolina to hunt hogs the last couple of years and they rub up against telephone poles with kresote(sp) on them. If you look at some of the telephone poles in the areas we hunt the are rubbed almost half way through. The hogs wallow in the mud and then rub up against them. So as crazy as it sounds the love telephone poles with kreasote on them, so i could see where the motor oil would work too.

they built that corse after the pigs where there know they have to deal with it. I am for hire if they want to put a big dent in the heard and i have a lot of experience killing jersey hogs. plus i hear their are some people letting these eating machines go.

Be very careful with that , I talked to a Warren and yes you can shoot them during the deer season but when the deer season is over you can't have any ammo in the woods that can kill deer . So how do you kill them ?
