Found some new state grounds close to college yesterday and hunted it this morning. Found a couple birds on my own and was able to down a nice rooster. After getting the nerves out with the first rooster that "got away", the second wasn't so lucky...:D Lots of shooting early and a bunch of happy guys at the trucks on the walk out.

good for you, nice bird.... we were out yesterday and for the first time this year we came out with a goose egg... happens to the best of us... were going out tommorrow and try again... happy hunting to all..... question for everyone its goose season again, if they fly over when we are Pheasant hunting we can knock one or two geese down right... I think so anyone help me out on that........

You know questions will arise here... :D since there are more hunters in the north, does this mean they will always receive the majority of the birds? Is this the reason numbers seem to be down in the south this season?
But good to know, thanks.

Yeah, its legal if you have you HIP, NJ stamp, and federal stamp... BUT, you can not shoot them with lead.
Also, I'm not too sure about the "actual" stockings numbers, but, I talked to two fellas while at colliers mills, they were from north Brunswick, I asked why do they come down here, they said the only two stocked WMA'S by them are Clinton and assunpink. They said it doesnt get stock heavy up there and its a mad house. Also, quail only get stocked on two pieces, Greenwood and Peaslee.
Colliers mills for exmaple is getting 360 birds on Sat. and 170 every Tues. and Thurs. Then in december they get 270 during the weekdays... Supposedly. For example one of the smaller southern WMA's (Heislerville) gets 50 every Sat.
Northern WMA'S - 29,000 birds total season.
Central WMA'S - 13,000 birds total season
Southern WMA'S - 13,000 birds total season
55,000 total birds for the year

Just curious,, but how do you know that the stamp sales factor in on all of this?? Either way, It sucks for us south jersey folk. We all pay the same price for the stamp, so we should get just as many birds IMO. Or the stamp price should be half as much.

Hunted for two and half hours this morning with another guy and his dog. She jumped a hen in the phragmites, i threw 2 shots at her but missed. Saw a bunch of birds roosted early on and few more guys with dogs pulled a few roosters from the thickets. Not too much action but a fair amount of shots early. Saturday it is our turn at Bevans!!

I dont know if your right about the stamp sales thing. how do they know where I am hunting. I think it goes more by the size of the wma. Glassboro and winslow are about 20 minutes apart glassboro gets 1440 birds winslow gets 700 for the season. Milleville in south jersey gets 4080 birds.Walpack in north jersey gets 650 for the season. Assunpink in central jersey gets 4770.Howardsville gets 500. So it looks like to me that it just depends on the total available acres. not stamp sales.

Beautiful day in the woods.... we got one.. found a dead Cock bird in the middle of a hedgerow freshly killed with no one around... we asked a few guys no one said they shot anything so we took it as ours... oh well.... total of two for the morning, we missed another two cock birds and four really high geese... giving hunting a rest for tomorrow... going on a 3/4 day fishing boat out of Point pleasant..... Ling, Black Fish and Sea Bass... going to cold but should be fun... good luck to everyone and be safe

I routinely hunt heislerviller WMA, that same piece I duck hunt, its right along the dbay and maurice river, there is however no rule stating steel shot only. If I'm duckhunting and have #4 steel in my gun and in my pack and also lead 7.5 in my pack for pheasant hunting, I'm gonna get a ticket? Wouldnt they realize 7.5# 2 and 3/4 inch shot isnt really potent enough to down ducks?

very high likelihood, if not a gaurantee that you will be ticketed if you are caught with lead shot in your pack while waterfowl hunting. The rule has nothing to do with the area, it has to do with the quarry...
Truthfully, when my lead shot is gone I will be shooting steel for everything except a preserve hunt. At the distance we take most pheasants there is no reason for lead other than a wider pattern. Steel will kill em just as dead as lead at 30-35 yards.
Technically... a woodcock is actually a migratory bird, and a duck stamp and requires steel shot...
Oh and BTW 2 3/4 7 - 1/2 lead has plenty of potential for teal... in fact, when we could shoot lead that's what we shot at the little boogers.
Save yourself the hassle.
