I want to shoot buckshot thru my shotgun. Is there a certian choke that should be use or should I just change chokes till I find a good pattern? What is the effective range on this stuff? I will be using 3"-31/2" shells. Any recomendations. Thanks.

you MUST pattern it. not all chokes are created equal. ive killed a couple out to about 75 yards with buckshot. and just recently i was curious about longer distances so i shot it at 100yds. 3-1/2", 00 shells , hits the target but i definatley wouldnt take that shot at a deer. i only had 4 pellets in piece of cardboard that was like 3'x3'

To do it right you will have to pattern it with different chokes and different size shot.My 10 gauge loves #4 buck with a extra full turkey choke.Find a gun that shoots 00 real good and never give it up.;)

do yourself a favor and pick up a patternmaster extended range chock tube they are worth every penny! They really throw buckshot well and I use it on coyotes w/ 3 1/2 T shot and man is it amazing.. I have tried 10 different chokes but patternmaster shot the best out of my benelli sbe and my 3 1/2 870...

every gun is different. must pattern them. my father has a old stevens side by side 12 ga. kicks like a mule. shoots to tight for small game for me.
but man...that thing can shoot #1 buckshot like a beehive. it loves 2 3/4" winchester 1 buck. if i put 00 buck in it it throws it everywhere!

I just did this with my shotgun this year. I shot a 12 pointer last year and i hit him at 50 yards. I tracked the deer and long story short, he made it. needless to say I decided to check how my gun was throwing buckshot, because I knew I was right on him. I shoot 3 1/2 inch OO buck, which I have killed many deer with but inside of 50 yards. When I patterned it it was only putting 3 pellets in at 50yds!!! So obviously I needed to change out chokes. I tried 1s OO and 4s. I found that it reaaly liked 4s with a full choke; it put 19 of 27 in at 50yds. I changed out the choke to an improved cylinder, and I got 10-11 in at 50yds. What a difference! I settled on the 00 with the improved cylinder because of the larger shot size. But it just goes to show you the differences between chokes and shot sizes. After losing that 12 pointer, I decided to go with a slug barel/scope combo,:D and it drills them!!!!:shoot: I won't make that mistake again. One thing I can tell you is that it seems that Improved cylinder and skeet are better chokes for buckshot because they are a little larger and I think they keep the buckshot from bouncing off of each other and scattering. Every gun is different and you need to get some shells and go out and try them to see what works for you. I never took the time to do that and it cost me big time!:(

I have a Browning BPS. I shoot 3 1/2" Winchester 00 Buck with a full choke. It shoots a nice tight pattern. I would recomend a full to extra full ckoke. Then you just have to try different shot untill you find what shoots best out of your gun.

Like everybody said pattern your gun.try different tubes and loads. My gun a 3" browning gold hunter loves 00 buck with a pattern master straight rifle choke tube at 50 yards every pellet in a pie plate. I shot a buck at 90 yards walking into a drive from the piece behind us. My dads rem 1187sp shoots even better use a cation straight rifle choke and 00 buck. On a farm permit i shot one over 100 yards away.

if you all ready have the tubes try shooting different loads i have an old New england single shot with a modified barrel no tubes and it will not hold a patern with anything bigger than 0 buck i shoot #1 3" a box of shells is alittle cheaper than buyin 10 different tubes just my opinion

which ever choke and shot you settle on check the lot number inside the box
and go back to the same store and buy all you can afford
and you will be set till the ammo is done
then if you have to buy more ammo even if its the same brand and shot size it may not be exactly the same
do not leave it to luck that it will be the same without patterning it again
it might only take one shot to do this but it will give you confidence:thup:
