I purchased the Cabelas Gun dog about a year ago ,Waterproof transmitter and receiver and i love it 15 power settings and sound recall. I have only had to hit him 3 times in 5 years, My dog loves the collar he relates it to going hunting or just running the meadow or fields. I also have an Innotec 1000 it was a good collar however the transmitter was not waterproof and my primary use is waterfowling.:)

I just purchased 1 from bass pro. It was the tri-tronics classic 70. It was expensive ($300) but honestly it was the the 300 that I spent. I used the stimulation for 2 days and now I only use tone. Find one that has stimulation and tone. Tri-tronics has lower end models but I couldn't find one that had both features. Besides that the only real difference is the range. The field models range is 1 mile and the sport models are 1/2 mile.

Tri-Tronics G-3 has worked well for me. Waterproof and indestructable, good range has the multi dog function.

You didn't mention if this is your first pup or if you have trained a dog
previous to this new one....If this is your first try to get someone to give
you some good info on training a young dog......Not every dog can handle
electricity and I've seen a few dogs ruined by trigger happy handlers.....
Dogs have individual tempraments and some, just like people, are tougher
mentally than others....Females are usually easier going than males and are more willing to please thus somewhat easier to train.....Males are a
little hard headed and some may need correcting and the use of a collar....but only sparingly AND then only after he/she knows the command, you know for sure that he/she knows what is expected and still decides to do the opposite....then a tone or very slight tickle may be in order....

As I said all dogs are different and some can handle a collar and some can't.....Teach yourself before you try to train your dog .....I would advise
to email the guys above who have collars and get their take on how they
train their dogs, but above all else go easy with the juice.

To answer your original question: Tri Tronics has been around for over 50
years....a little pricey....but they make a great unit...Sorry to be so windy......good luck with your new pup....GSP's are great dogs.

We had to put a shock collar on Piney to keep him from stealing our beer. It worked a few times but he drank through a few Millers while sparking and crackling. After that it was just a waste of electric.

Started out with an inotek and never used it because Lion Country sent it to me with a black collar I didn't like. Sent it back and upgraded to a Tri-tronics Sport Upland G3 trainer beeper collar. Like it so far.

My Abigail is a Ryman English setter female.

I have tri-tronics classic 70G2 EXP. you can use 6 collars on it and its very durable. We use em for the bear hounds, rabbit dogs, cat and coon dogs, and anything else we're training. Also wildlife research has the best telemetry IMO. We're experimenting now with the Garmin Astro.

I have used the Innoteck for ten years now, got the one for two dogs and it has worked out well.
Pick up a good training video when you buy it, it will help you train yourself before you train your dog and will make a world of difference.
