you dont really think you are going to hear from guys who would know and hunt it do you? ha ha......that tract of land in and around the marsh and reeds is amazing after the bucks get pushed away from other properties. problem is that not many trees to hang a stand..think about other means like a ground blind or tipod stand.....I heard stories from guys that worked on the island and telling me of all the huge bucks standing in the reeds....its worth looking into it...i think most people get discouraged because it looks more like a duck hunting place than deer but they are there and worth it....

I appreciate the reply , I wasnt looking for any specific spots. I think the Fish/Wildlife book says that there are 4,500 acres. After being able to hunt private ground I just wasnt looking forward to hunting WMA's like Glassboro and Winslow. I'm willing to travel if it means its not as crowded. I havent tried bow hunting from the ground yet

i used to work at hope creek about 12 years ago. i saw tons of deer and some very nice bucks down there. some of the crickers would let a little info out, but not much. there are some nice bucks on those islands. you have to take in a 15' a frame ladder with you to hunt the marsh. i have heard stories of deer walking right into the ladders with the guys sitting on top. also saw some nice deer at the end of mad horse wma, right along the drive for the island. many times my father would tell me of deer swimming through his decoys while duckin' on stow creek.
there are deer were deer shouldn't be, normally.

I never would have believed that deer could swim until I saw it myself. I had the spot light out trying to find the duck blind and the deer proceeded to swim the canal. Thats one of the things that I love about being outdoors you get too see things that alot of other people wont

I have seen deer swim across the Delaware River before. they pretty much go where ever they want to go.

Some of the biggest bucks are in the thickest, swampest land that you can imagine. Thats why they get to grow old because alot hunters wont go back in that crap. I love "still'' hunting through that crap. Take your time, down low, baby steps and crawl. I mean maybe mabe 2hrs to go 100yrds. You will be suprized what you can walk up on in the thick.

I have a few budies that hunt along the delaware and they all have said that scent is the biggest hurdle ,those deer in the reeds have awsome noses and will stay put unless you step on them ,very tough hunting but you never know what will be there .I do know there are alot of guys hunting down there , my one buddy tries to find the most remote spots and every year 1 or 2 spots gets messed with every year .

The waterways down there create the sanctuary for there beds. There's a whole deer city out in those fragmite, trails everywhere. If you have to track one, be prepared to get wet...bring hippers atleast and have access to a canoe if you need it. I've spent many a night in those frags, Its amazing how quick you can get disoriented in the dark, when you can't see the tree line because the frags are over your head. Its a shame, but I've seen too many guys get spooked and give up the track after just a few dozen yards into the frags. I like it, pretty easy blood trail when they are rubbing frags the whole way.

As for swimming, its great to hear them coming off the beds, hear them swim the canals and even hear them shake like a dog when they get out. Almost all the deer I see down there are wet or have wet legs.

Bayside is pretty much a good hunting spot for the security guards. I have a buddy who works there and they pull a lottery on the piece and you need to stay in specific areas.

If you have a boat or not scared to walk the marsh Mad horse has some great spots on it. I've tried to follow rub and scrape lines and it got too hairy for me, started to sink up over my boots and turned tail and got out of there.

last time I went down there to check out the birds and deer on the fields the LAC cops just about had me in hand cuffs, my son was crying in the passenger seat. Someone call the police and said I was watching the nuke plant with binoculars. The cop told me I was not supposed to be around there and didn't care if it was WMA or not.

Hey hatch, one thing important to remember is hunting the tides.....a high tide might force deer movement during the mid day because of the wet arse......Ive had people tell me they hunt the tides there....just know where they wanna be and where they go and its like a Mother Nature deer drive.....

Lot's of hunters now. Used to be a great place but the overabundance of people have really turned it around. Also, the parking is too regulated making long walks a must.
