At the classic in raritan the biggest seem to be coming from monmouth county , But , alot of big deer get killed in salem that never get to the show or bragged about. I know a few guys that shoot 150 class or bigger every year but dont talk about it much ,with all the BS guys start saying about guys that shoot big ones consistently they dont want to be bothered, My one buddy has even had guys follow him to see where he is going ,it is worse than the fishing guys following the guys from there marina that catch alot of nice fish .As soon as some one shoots a big one the stories get crazy .I was working a show at the sportsmans center one year for ubnj and there was a few local mounts of big deer ,One was right next to our booth and i must of heard 30 stories about the deer from it was jacklighted to it was killed in another state to that guy is an outlaw and the wardens are watching him ,to he killed it from my buddies farm 3 counties over from where it was tagged ,. Guys get crazy when it comes to big deer whether it is envy or jealousie guys cant be happy for some one they seem to want to bash . I have since met that guy who killed the big deer and i hunt with him alot ,he seems to have the knack for killing big deer ,from the stand placement to the right day to hunt he just gets it done ,other guys hunt for 3 weks a spot and dont see the big one thenhe hunts and gets it ,it is unreal . If i had to really say what county i would say Salem #1 Monmouth #2

i agree.
i would then say southern gloucester county and western cumberland are right there also.
the southern guys don't talk much. there are high hunter numbers down here. if the word gets out, tresspassers every day.
i have a great property, had it for 11 years now. i have a lot of tresspassing, mostly because my deer feed in a field that is on a busy road. people think they can just hunt it. i try and keep quiet about whats going on.
i've have seen some great bucks in hunterton county. they have some nice little hidey holes in them rolling hills.

Saw several class bucks in Salem county.
2 monsters about 5 years ago as I was going over the Commadore Barry bridge. Was late november and was headed down to CM for a striper charter. Looked down at the long reed grass and saw several deer standing in one of the paths that looked like they were made by 4 wheelers down there. 2 slammer bucks standing one probably 150 class and 1 a liitle smaller. other bucks with small racks ans several does.
Saw 1- 12 point 150 class buck in January 8 years ago on private hunting preserve we were pheasant hunting on for the day. The guide went to stock our birds and pushed out a dozen deer from the strip of woods acroos the field and last one to come out was a great big black racked buck! This land wass bordered on three sides by the Delaware Bay. Was really shocked to see this monster come out of this area. He had a great hiding place to grow old.
Never hunted for deer in NJ but am sure there are nice bucks running around.

I agree with you Stephenf, everytime i'm at a show around big mounts the hunter who took it did not do it the right way cracks me up, all the stories. But i do know this the guys that do most of the story tellin can't hunt anyway or can't put the time in and are just a bit jealous, human nature I have had the pleasure to hunt with guys who have been fortunate enough to take some really big deer in PA. and NJ. and they all did it right, but i also know the lousy few who have done it wrong and you should here those fairy tales.

If you just look at where the largest deer were checked in last year....A non typical archery from somerset county 178 7/8 inches!!!!! with a close second of 178 6/8 inches in salem county........ then tied for 3rd is 172 1/8 in both from monmouth county.... typical archery deer 1st 161 3/8 from somerset and 2nd 149 7/8 from salem....typical shotgun 167 7/8 hunterdon county and 2nd also from hunterdon co. at 160 1/8. non typical shotgun 159 2/8 middlesex co. and 2nd 155 7/8 monmouth. muzzle loader 155 2/8 hunterdon and 147 6/8 sussex. proof is in whats checked in...I own a large parcel of land in salem county but I think year after year northern counties produce more book bucks.... salem county is a close second........I think its contributed to the larger uninterupted pieces of property so the critters can get those extra years....

I go to a game dinner every year and there are some great bucks killed out of Salem-Cumberland-Glouc. counties. No one talks about Exactly where they were killed and everyone know best not to ask.
In a state with 7+ Mil. people being quiet about spots seems like the golden rule..............The N. Jeresy bucks get lots of press and I don't mind it one bit........

Has nothing to do with press, that info came right out of the Nj fish game n wildlife book....I'm sure that there are some deer checked in and the hunter no wanting it to be scored and not wanting people to know about it but we are human......If I killed a 178" buck I think i'd have to stop to get an oil change during all the driving around i'm gonna do.....

the thing didnt move?
the new robo deer they have moves, walks, tail moves, and the horns can be changed out. basket 6 to a 160"

you under estimate the amount of farmers, that because they don't have to buy a lic. to hunt their land, don't tag the deer.

shoot a big one and show everyone ,then tell a few where you really shot it and ........ the stories they say about you are amazing ,people you never knew where your best friend "untill you started poaching" you will be truelly amazed at what will be said ,..... then you will spend every day in the woods chasing guys out because they think if the big one came from there, there must be bucks like that behind every white oak,.....people are srewed up.

You guys are all nuts, there are NO big deer in Salem County!!:D:D:D
Tough subject, guys that only fish have no idea how bad spot burning can get. A big buck can bring the worst out in people. I've learned my lesson the hard way, so during the season, if you catch me at my truck after the hunt, no matter what...I only saw a doe or a yearling;) and that was in a ficticious location:D

:DI've lived in Salem county for 10 years and have hunted here for 15 years before that. I have never seen anything larger then a 100lb doe. We have no bucks!! I've seen fish and game artificially inseminate deer here just to keep the herd up. Its funny how no bucks are born. Must be the nuclear plant :D:D

plenty of big deer never make it to the deer classic shows. its easy enough to get it scored and then be done with it. people keep it queit so their good thing doesnt get messed up. theres a lot of big deer that have been killed and never scored out there. a good hunting spot is getting harder to come by every year in jersey the way they are developing. best to be silent until there are a thousand homes were you killed the deer then talk.

Must be the nuclear plant :D:D
I think your right, its also the reason for the large amount of ticks and chiggers down there, which are only out numbered by the millions of mosquitos:D
Wait a minute....that mosquito part is true:o
saw 14 nontypical bruiser swimming in lake hopatcong in the rain today near windlass resturant.lives right in the area.

i agree 100%. plus it will be in a very tiny piece of wooded area behind a developement, and will die of old age. my parents neighbor hood has a very thin tract of woods with a creek and it runs right in between rows of houses and i have seen a few monsters in there
