Grouse?

Anybody seeing any? Last few times up in the sticks,didnt see any,or
hear any!

I got grouse!!!!!!!!!!!! I hunt all over the state(PA) Found good numbers all through Sullivan,Columbia, Luzerne and Wyoming Counties... I have a guiding business up there, Strickly for grouse and woodcock.. We always do well. Heading up there on Friday for some dog training.... I'll find all my early season broods before they break up. Its going to be a good season....

We're loaded with grouse in Sullivan County this year. I must have seen 5 or 6 flocks of young ones this summer. I also saw a coyote working on them, too. :eek: Parted his hair with the 300 Mag.

One day my boy and i were walking to my stand to do some trimming and saw about 15 of them. A good 7 or 8 we saw on the ground before they took off.

The downside is that this was in an overgrown clear-cut and a clear shot is almost impossible to get. I guess that's why there's so many. :)

I hunt grouse most of the time with my Guide service and when a client wants to see grouse and get some shooting, the first place I head is a overgrown clear cut. You'll very rarely get a clear, unobstructed shot at any grouse. If so it won't last long with the Coyotes and hawks.

My clients kill more striped maple then anything else. As soon as I can get them to taste good, I'll really be in the money. Heading to Sullivan County tomorrow for wood drop off and scouting for the upcoming grouse season. I'll be up in State Game Lands 13 for most of the scout. Me and the doggies will find them.....

Oh I almost forgot, If you guys find a cut that was made from logging 2 or 3 years prior, with water,food and cover, You'll find them, where the cover breaks, but grouse don't always follow the rules, so they are where they are and they aren't where they aren't. Nice!

Russ - I spend a lot of time in SGL 13. It's like a 2nd home. Got my bear there and half of all our deer come from there. Plus turkeys.

I've been hunting SGL 13, 57, 66 and Rickett's Glen since I was 14. We've killed alot of good animals up there. If you see a Gold Dodge PK up with a brace of German Shorthairs in it, it'll be me. I usually hang out with Henry at the Jamison City Hotel.... ALL the Bartenders and most of the waitresses know me since we've been going up there so long.. Maybe I'll run into you up there.

Our cabin is on top of Red Rock. We ride our snowmobiles to Jamison City every winter. When we eat out, we usually hit the Central. Sometimes The Brass Pelican for breakfast. We're heading up this weekend. Will you be up? We border Frost Hollow, Painter Den and SGL 13.

We've been at that cabin since 1984. Before that we belonged to a camp that was around since before I was born - near Dushore and Forksville.

Missed you at Jamison. I closed it last night with Mike and Henry... It was a blast. I got a bunch of new grouse spots from Mike.. Cut a bunch of wood and just got home a few minutes ago..

We were never down that way. Did our shopping in Dushore on Saturday because we wanted a bottle of wine with dinner. Rode the 4-wheelers a lot, took the boy out to the range to practice with the 410 and had dinner and cocktails at the cabin.

We'll be up again on the 26th. Staying home this weekend to hunt the early archery opener.

Saw a 400lb bear at the cabin Saturday night. Dogs chased it off.

Ha ha. 400lber was in the middle of cocktails. ;)

With some of the enormous bears we've seen up there, 400lbs isn't anything to write home about. We'll see to it that he weighs 500lb before the season starts.

Have you ever seen some of the camp names up state???? I used to like to just ride around to look at the names.. Ours is less impressive "Hittle's Half-a-Hill". Kind of self explanitory.. Painter's Den!that ones already taken, hah Scott!!!! That would have been a good one for you Wadd.The history in those camps is funny. We had a place in Elk Grove for years then lost it, but know we got the "Hill"..
Killed me a mess of grouse up there. The best thing is not many people chase after them like US!

I made a wise crack about the Dirty Dozen, which is up by Dushore. I kid because I love, though. The members of that camp are friends and we visit there sometimes when we're up. I grew up in a camp only a few miles down 87 called The Potter's Club. There was also "Over The Hill Gang" and "The Derilects" around that area. We call our place White Oak Lodge. Simply because we've been planting white oaks up there since 1994.
